Course Description Materials Science and Metallurgy
Study of the major materials used in industrial engineering, considering structure and properties, testing methods (destructive and nondestructive), and microscopic examination. Materials will be classified into four broad groups as metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. The fundamental aspects of mechanical and engineering/design properties and selected major industrial processes will be discussed.
Course Objectives Materials Science and Metallurgy
The Object of this course is to understand : the basic concepts of :
- The basic concepts of the nature of different classes of solid materials
- The basic concepts of regarding the different properties of materials, with a focus on mechanical properties and testing
- The basic concepts in the microstructural evaluation of metals and alloys
- The basic concepts in tribology and its importance in industrial practice
- The basic concepts in solidification and casting technology
- The basic concepts in heat treatment of important alloys, corrosion and surface engineering & treatments
After successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to contribute to solving problems in metallurgy and materials technology.
